Czech-German police contact centers to be strengthened

Xinhua, February 18, 2016 Adjust font size:

Due to the current migration crisis, the Czech Republic and Germany want to strengthen the Czech-German police contact centers that have been in the Bavarian Schwandorf and Petrovice Usti region since 2007, said Czech Police president Tomas Tuhy on Wednesday.

Dozens of Czech police officers work in the centers, which have been in operation since 2007 when the Czech Republic joined the Schengen Area. When the Bavarian contact center started operating, 16 Czech officers worked in it. Besides coordinating activities and exchanging information, they also cooperate in searching for persons and stolen cars.

Tuhy said the centers were of fundamental importance given their potential role in tackling situations that now afflict Europe and the world, hinting at the migration crisis and terrorism. He said the current number of police officers at the centers was sufficient, but that could change.

Besides the Czech-German contact centers, there are also two Czech-Polish contact centers, one Czech-Austrian and one Czech-Slovak contact center. Endit
