Albanian gov't to provide grants, agricultural machineries for greenhouses

Xinhua, February 17, 2016 Adjust font size:

Albanian government will support financially the building and operation of greenhouses across the country by providing grants and agricultural inputs such as machinery, seed, and fertilizers as part of its agriculture and agribusiness policies designed to stimulate the growth and development of the country's agricultural sector, Albanian Telegraphic Agency reported on Tuesday.

The Albanian government will cover 50 percent of the capital investment and construction costs for every new greenhouse and 60 percent of the agricultural machineries and equipments as a viable option to support development of agriculture sector.

Agriculture experts say the government will largely subsidize construction of modern and innovative greenhouse facilities designed to suit various types of crops and diverse climate conditions.

Construction of greenhouses in Albania started after the 1960s. The first greenhouses facilities were mainly wooden or concrete structures with polyethylene cover and were primarily built to exploit the solar energy. Later, new modern and glass-covered greenhouses with central heating were designed.

Albania offers very favourable natural conditions, such as warm climate, light sandy soils and irrigation potential. Albania will be soon able to grow perennial plants and agricultural products not only for domestic market but also for export. Enditem
