Defending champion David Ferrer is worried about the strong heat here at the Rio Open tennis tournament, according to Brazilian daily newspaper Extra.

The current world No. 6 will attempt to maintain his title in the fierce heat of the Brazilian summer, where temperatures can reach 40 degrees Celsius.

In addition to the warm weather, humidity can also be a problem for athletes in this part of the world, said the Spanish tennis player.

Ferrer nevertheless confirmed that he is in good physical condition and ready to defend his crown. He plays his opener in the tournament on Tuesday (today) against Nicolas Jarry.

The 33-year-old is also using the tournament to look ahead to the Olympic Games, which would be his third participation in the event. Endit
