Iran's president to visit Turkey for talks on mutual cooperation: envoy

Xinhua, February 14, 2016 Adjust font size:

Iran's President Hassan Rouhani will make an official visit to Turkey in the coming months to discuss a range of issues of mutual interets, the Iranian ambassador to Ankara Alireza Bigdeli was quoted as saying by Tasnim new agency on Sunday.

During his visit, Rouhani will attend Iran-Turkey High Level Cooperation Council (HLCC), Bigdeli said.

HLCC, established in 2014, has provided a structured basis to the Turkish-Iranian relations.

The first meeting of the HLCC was held in Ankara in June 2014 during the visit of Rouhani to Turkey and the second one in April 2015 during the visit of Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of the Republic of Turkey, to Iran.

"Friendly relations between Iran and Turkey gives us the assurance that the ties are on the right and positive track, and that the path will be continued in the long-term," Bigdeli said.

It is possible that problems and tensions between the countries emerge at any time, but one should ensure the required mechanism for resolving such issues is available, he added.

In spite of differences over Syria, the two neighbors have good relations in other respects. Trade relations between Iran and Turkey have expanded greatly in the past decade. Endit
