Brazil star Robinho denies "mercenary" tag

Xinhua, February 14, 2016 Adjust font size:

Brazil international Robinho has denied that he is a "mercenary" following his transfer from Chinese club Guangzhou Evergrande to Brazilian outfit Atletico-MG.

The 32-year-old had been heavily linked with a move to his boyhood club of Santos, where he won two Brazilian titles in 2002 and 2004, as well as a Brazilian Cup triumph in 2010.

However, the former Real Madrid and Milan forward made a surprise switch, instead opting to sign a two-year contract with Belo Horizonte side Atletico. The Minas side lifted the Copa Libertadores in 2013, with a side that included Ronaldinho Gaucho.

Robinho denied that his decision was swayed by money and laid out his objectives while with his new club, with whom he will play in the Libertadores this year.

A return to the Brazilian national side is the main aim for Robinho in 2016. Brazil play against Uruguay next month in a World Cup qualifier, and will also compete in the centenary edition of the Copa America in June. Endi
