Afghanistan concerned about safety of kidnapped ex-governor

Xinhua, February 13, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Afghan government on Saturday expressed its deep concerns for the safety of a former governor kidnapped in neighboring Pakistan.

Unidentified gunmen kidnapped former governor of Afghanistan's western Herat province Sayed Fazalullah Wahidi in Islamabad on Friday.

"Given the fact that Wahidi was kidnapped in Pakistan, Afghanistan wants Pakistan to take immediate and serious action through its security agencies using all possibilities in identifying the kidnappers and securing the release of Wahidi," the Afghan Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Hazrat Omar Zakhilwal, Afghan ambassador in Islamabad, has expressed serious concern over the incident and was in touch with Pakistani authorities shortly after the kidnapping, according to sources.

Wahidi reportedly went to a restaurant along with his 12-year-old grandson when he was taken away by gunmen.

No one has claimed responsibility for the incident. Enditem
