French minister advocates global strategy against IS at Munich security conference

European countries need to have a global, ambitious and collective strategy to fight IS, French Defense Minister Jean Yves Le Drian said here on Friday.

Speaking to high-ranking diplomats at the 52nd Munich Security Conference, Le Drian stressed "our action must be global and very ambitious. At the same time, resolve and consistency are also needed in decisions."

Le Drian said long-term defense and security efforts were important, as the current refugee crisis affecting Europe is not going to abate without serious, collective efforts.

"Europe is facing a very difficult strategic environment, no matter in which direction we are looking," he added.

He called on Germany and France to get ready to take on special responsibility in these difficult times. Endit
