Argentina's President meets Nadal

Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal was met by Argentina's President Mauricio Macri on Wednesday ahead of his opening match in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Buenos Aires tournament.

"It was a pleasure to spend a few minutes with Mauricio Macri, Argentina's president. Thank you for making me feel at home," wrote Nadal on his official Twitter account after the meeting.

The number five in the ATP world ranking entered Argentina's government building around 17:00 local time (20:00 GMT). He stayed in the president's office for a few minutes and even looked out one of the traditional balconies.

Even though there were no official declarations from the president, various photos were published showing the former world number one with Macri.

Nadal will kick off his campaign at the Argentina Open on Thursday against Juan Monaco in the second round.

The Spaniard will be trying to defend the title he won last year when he defeated Monaco in the final by 6-4 and 6-1.

It is not the first time that Macri has met with Nadal. He met the Spaniard before while he was the Buenos Aires Chief of Government in 2013 and 2015. Endit
