Tokyo shares open lower following U.S. losses

Tokyo shares continued declining on Wednesday after an over-5-percent drop in the previous day, following poor performance in the overnight U.S. stock market.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged down 34.90 points, or 0.22 percent, from Tuesday to 16,050.54.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange lost 5.96 points, or 0.46 percent, to 1,298.37. Endit
