S. Korea, U.S., Japan hold video conference over DPRK's rocket launch: Yonhap

Xinhua, February 9, 2016 Adjust font size:

Defense authorities of South Korea, the United States and Japan on Tuesday held a video teleconference to share intelligence on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK)'s recent rocket launch, Yonhap news agency reported.

Attending the video conference was South Korea's deputy minister for defense policy Yoo Jeh-Seung, U.S. assistant secretary of defense for Asian and Pacific security affairs David B. Shear and Japanese director-general of defense policy bureau Satoshi Maeda.

The senior defense officials shared intelligence on the DPRK's launch of a long-range rocket on Sunday, discussing cooperation measures to tackle the issue.

The rocket launch came about a month after what Pyongyang claimed was its first H-bomb test on Jan. 6.

Condemning the recent rocket launch and nuclear test, the defense officials shared a view that the DPRK provocations were in clear breach of UN Security Council resolutions and called them serious provocative acts threatening regional security.

Reaffirming the rocket launch was an intolerable provocation, they agreed to continue sharing intelligence on the DPRK's nuclear and missile threats. Enditem
