Japan, South Korea and the United States on Sunday called for tougher sanctions against the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) following an emergency session of the UN Security Council in response to Pyongyang's launch of a missile that it said carried an earth observation satellite.
In a statement read out by Ambassador Rafael Ramirez Carreno of Venezuela, this month's president of the 15-nation body, the Council "strongly condemned" North Korea's launch as it "contributes to DPRK's development of nuclear weapon delivery technology." (UN-DPRK-Satellite)

DAMASCUS -- The Jabha al-Shamiyah, or Levant Front, rebel group has concluded a truce with the Islamic State (IS) and decided to join force to face the advance of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in the northern province of Aleppo, pan-Arab al-Mayadeen TV reported on Sunday.
Both rival parties have agreed to a cessation of hostility, exchange of prisoners, and allowing the flow of weapons and fighters between areas under their respective control in northern Aleppo, according to the report.(Syria-IS)

TRIPOLI -- At least four people were killed, including a woman and her 10-year-old son, on Sunday when unidentified war planes hit Libya's eastern city of Darna, according to witnesses.

AMMAN -- Jordan fears influx of new waves of Syrian refugees as fighting is intensifying in the southern parts of Syria, the state-run Petra news agency reported Sunday.
Jordan's Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour said after the recent bombings of Aleppo a few days ago, more than 70,000 Syrian refugees have fled the city for Turkey.
