Palestinian PM holds Israeli accountable for deteriorating situation

Xinhua, February 6, 2016 Adjust font size:

Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah saccused on Saturday Israel of being responsible for the deteriorating conditions in the Palestinian territories.

Hamdallah said in an emailed statement that Israel's continued policy of "field executions, collective punishment, putting towns, villages, and cities under siege will only escalate the security situation."

The statement added that the Israeli government violates international law through continued movement restrictions against the Palestinian people and military checkpoints, calling on the international community to intervene immediately to stop Israel's violations and to "provide international protection for the Palestinian people."

The statements come in the backdrop of shooting a Palestinian youth with live ammunition and injuring several others with rubber bullets and suffocation of tear gas in clashes between Palestinian youth and Israeli forces near Jenin, north of the West Bank.

The Israeli army imposes closure on the northern West bank town of Qabatiya, for the fifth consecutive day where Israeli forces took over residential houses and turned them to military installations.

The Israeli siege of Qabatiya came after three youth of the town attacked Israeli border police soldiers by stabbing and shooting in Jerusalem last Monday, killing one soldier and injuring another.

Clashes in the West Bank and Gaza on Friday led to killing one Palestinian and injuring 96 others by rubber bullets and suffocation.

The Palestinians death toll raised to over 170 according to Palestinian Health Ministry, while 30 Israelis were killed, in the latest upsurge of violence since last October. Endit
