Xinhua, February 6, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Singapore government was saddened by news of the earthquake that struck China's Taiwan early Saturday, said Singapore Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan.

"We send our deepest condolences to those who lost their loved ones in the earthquake," he said in a Facebook post.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.7 hit southern Taiwan early on Saturday morning, damaging several buildings, leaving at least five people dead and hundreds injured.

The Singapore government will offer assistance in the rescue efforts, he added.

In the meantime, Balakrishnan said that so far, no reports of any Singaporean casualties have been received. Endit
