German police arrest three suspected violent Islamists

Xinhua, February 4, 2016 Adjust font size:

German police arrested on Thursday three suspected violent Islamists during large-scale raids across Germany, German media reported.

Two allegedly violent Islamists and a woman were arrested after hundreds of police raided two apartments and two firms in Berlin, as well as a refugee shelter near Hanover and one in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, German broadcaster ARD reported.

Police are searching for a group of four men suspected of planning an attack in Germany. However, two of them have still not been caught.

According to a report of German newspaper Bild, Berlin's main square Alexanderplatz was planned as an attack target.

It's about possible attack plans for Germany, specifically for Berlin, Martin Steltner, the spokesman for the investigating authority, was quoted as saying.

Among the arrested is the main suspect, a 35-year-old Algerian, who fought in Syria for the Islamic State (IS) militant group.

Berlin's RBB radio reported the man entered Germany as a refugee and used different identities. Enditem
