Pakistan, Afghan defence officials vow to stop terrorist activities

Senior Pakistani and Afghan military officials met in the Pakistani garrison city of Rawalpindi on Thursday and "reiterated that terrorists operating on either side of border will not be allowed to use their soil for any terrorists' activity on either side of the border."

The Directors General Military Operations met at a time when military-to-military contacts have increased in recent days.

It is the second visit to Pakistan by the senior Afghan military officers in a week to explore ways for increased security cooperation.

The Afghan Director General Military Operation along with delegation visited the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi and met his Pakistani counterpart, the military said.

"During the meeting today, issues related to bilateral security and border management came under discussion," an army statement said.

Both sides also expressed resolve to continue the interaction for better bilateral military to military coordination.

The visit was sequel to the Pakistan Army Chief's visit of Kabul in December, during which regular bilateral interactions of Pakistan and Afghanistan military were decided.

On the other hand, Afghan Intelligence Chief, Masoud Andarabi arrived in Islamabad for discussions with his Pakistani counterpart on information sharing and to boost security cooperation, officials said on Thursday.

Andarabi was scheduled to meet Lt General Rizwan Akhtar, chief of Inter-Services Intelligence, in the afternoon, an official said.

The meeting is was part of quadrilateral process of Afghanistan, China, Pakistan and the United States for reconciliation with Taliban. Enditem
