Xinhua, February 3, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Lebanese army said on Wednesday that it had killed six militants and arrested 16 others in the northeastern town of Arsal near the border with Syria.

"The military carried out raids on positions of the terror group of Ahmed Ammoun, the mastermind of recent clashes in the border town, injuring him in the back, and killing Islamic State (IS) militant Anas Khaled Zaarour," the army said in a statement

It pointed that "Ammoun was arrested along with Abou Bakr al-Raqawi and a group of Syrian nationals linked to the IS.

Explosives and suicide belts were also confiscated, it said.

The NNA also said that "the army raided an IS hospital in Arsal and arrested 16 militants, who were planning to target army positions and kidnap citizens from Arsal."

In a similar development, the army raided the house of Abdul Rahman al-Flaiti (aka) Nougo in the same town and arrested seven people, the NNA reported.

A dead body of a Syrian man was found in the trunk of a vehicle that belongs to Nougom, the report said.

The army said in another statement that "it arrested in the Bekaa town two people on suspicion of belonging to terror cells." Endit
