Shanghai port imports over 400,000 automobiles

Xinhua, February 3, 2016 Adjust font size:

Shanghai port imported over 400,000 finished automobiles in 2015, becoming the country's largest port of its kind, according to Shanghai Customs District on Wednesday.

Statistics shows that among all automobile importers, those importing Ferrari, Maserati, McLaren, Bentley, Lamborghini and Volvo chose Shanghai port as their sole port for imports.

It used to take more than a week to release imported cars after they arrived to the port, but the time was shortened to three days now that the valuation process is conducted before customs clearance, according to Shanghai Customs District.

The reduced time will help import businesses save storage costs and shorten the supply chain.

"All finished Volvo cars sold in China are imported from Shanghai port because of its high efficiency, " said Li Da, director of logistics department of Volvo Car Sales (Shanghai) Co., Ltd, "we imported 15,000 cars last year." Enditem
