French President Francois Hollande on Thursday repeated the need to further improve the handling of refugee inflows in both Europe and Syria's neighboring countries where thousands of Syrians are camping, having fled war and violence.

At a meeting with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, Hollande stressed "the need for a stronger international and European response to better control flows, ensuring obligations of receiving refugees and strengthening financial support for humanitarian assistance in neighboring Syria."

In a statement released by his office, the French president also reiterated France's commitment to ensure humanitarian aid access to Syrian besieged cities.

France pledged to take in 30,000 refugees over the next two years. Endit
