Morocco to repatriate nationals with refugee status on groundless basis

Xinhua, January 28, 2016 Adjust font size:

Morocco announced on Wednesday that it will repatriate any of its nationals who claim refugee status on groundless basis.

According to a statement of Morocco's king Mohammed VI office, the King and German Chancellor Angela Merkel agreed over phone that the two sides will review the cases of those irregularly staying in Germany, and repatriate without delay those nationals who claim refugee status on groundless basis to Morocco.

The recent flows of migrants to Europe followed what was meant to be a humanitarian move but whose goal was diverted and massively exploited by human trafficking networks, active on both shores of the Mediterranean Sea, the statement said.

It was also agreed upon that the German interior minister will visit Morocco as soon as possible to work closely with his Moroccan peer on this issue.

The two leaders hailed their cooperation in various fields and the positive development of the bilateral ties.

Hoping to get the right to asylum in European countries, including Germany, thousands of people from North Africa have claimed to be from war-torn countries such as Syria, Iraq or Afghanistan. Enditem
