Coalition of Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger to track kidnapped Australian couple

Xinhua, January 27, 2016 Adjust font size:

Burkina Faso President Roch Marc Christian Kabore said that a coalition bringing together his country, Mali and Niger was working together to track the Australian couple kidnapped in mid-January in northern Burkina Faso.

"I want to reassure the victims' family, friends and the Australian government that everything is being done by ourselves and our neighbouring states of Mali and Niger as well as other international partners to find them," the president said during a ceremony held early this week to remember the 32 victims of this month's terrorist attacks in Ouagadougou.

Eliot Arthur Kenneth and Josephine Kenneth, the couple, have been living in Burkinabe's northern town of Djibo since 1972, where they have been treating the local population.

So far, no group has claimed responsibility for their kidnapping. However, several sources said the two Australians could have been kidnapped by a group calling itself "Emirate of Sahara" which is affiliated to the Al-Qaeda in Islamic Maghreb. Endit
