Indian woman police officer climbs highest peak in Antarctic

A woman police officer from the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh has successfully climbed the Mount Vinson Massif, the highest peak in the Antarctic, said Indo-Asian News Service Wednesday.

The news service quoted an official as saying Wednesday in Lucknow, state capital of Uttar Pradesh, that Aparna Kumar climbed the 17,000-feet-high peak of the Mount Vinson Massif on Jan. 17.

Along with the Indian tricolor national flag, Kumar also hoisted the Uttar Pradesh Police flag on the mountain peak, said the report.

The report also said Kumar was the first Indian woman police officer to have scaled the mountain in the South Pole region. Endit
