Nine people, most of them musicians from a Peruvian band named Elegancia, were killed when a passenger minibus fell about 100 meters after veering off a road, in the countryside near Bolivia's capital La Paz, police announced on Monday.

The national director of traffic police, Julio Cruz, told journalists that four people were wounded and taken to the Hospital Arco Iris in La Paz.

Th accident happened in the area of Velo de la Novia, north of the city, where roads are known to be narrow and above ravines of up to 200 meters.

"A minibus travelling from Coripata to La Paz fell off the road at El Velo de la Novia, with a sad toll of nine dead and four injured," said Cruz.

Preliminary data also stated that most people of the 13 on board were part of a musical group named Elegancia from the town of Yunguyo in Peru.

Rescue services worked diligently to bring up the bodies and rescue the injured, according to Cruz, although no list of the victims has been published so far. Endit
