Myanmar sports to lead regional countries in 5 years, says minister

Myanmar sports will lead among regional countries in five years through Sports Master Plan, according to Deputy Sports Minister U Thaung Htaik Monday.

The completed Sports Master Plan mainly focus on development of Myanmar sports on long-term systematically, he said.

It is necessary to hold competitions and place sports grounds in villages, quarters, townships and districts nationwide as well as sports equipment and enough qualified coaches to train the athletes, he added.

Myanmar hosted the 27th Southeast Asian Games in 2013 after 44 years, standing second in medal table amongst the Southeast Asian nations.

Myanmar had already hosted the Games in 1961 and 1969 respectively in Yangon, the then capital of Myanmar. Enditem
