Burkina Faso arrests 10 soldiers for arms depot attack

Xinhua, January 24, 2016 Adjust font size:

Ten soldiers of Burkina Faso's former presidential guard were arrested after Friday's foiled attack on an arms depot near the capital, the military said Sunday.

"Following combing operation carried out, 11 people comprising 10 soldiers of the former presidential security regiment (RSP) and a religious man have been arrested in Kouritenga neighborhood and in a village located 2 km to Yimdi," said military official Mahamadi Bonkoungou in a press release.

"Other attackers are still at large," said Bonkoungou.

The 10 soldiers were ex-members of the RSP unit loyal to former President Blaise Compaore, who was removed from power in October 2014 after 27 years' rule.

On Friday morning, ex-RSP members attacked the Yimdi weapons depot, some 15 km west of capital Ouagadougou, and fled with ammunition and guns. Endit
