8-goal triller pushes China closer to Four-nation women's tournament title

Xinhua, January 23, 2016 Adjust font size:

Ma Xiaoxu, Wang Shanshan and Zhang Rui all scored twice to gift China an eight goal thriller over Vietnam in the four-nation women's soccer tournament here on Saturday.

Zhang Rui's header opened the scoring for China in the 14th minute. Zhao Xue added another in the 36th minute to help the Chinese side lead 2-0 in the first half.

"We scored early tonight, so the match went more smoothly," said Chinese head coach Bruno Bini.

China dominated the second half with Ma Xiaoxu netting after Wang Shanshan's long pass in the 50th minute. Zhang scored her second in the 53rd minute after a fine pass by Wang.

Leading 4-0, the Chinese side just found themselves unstoppable. Wang sent the loose ball into back of the net in the 65th minute. Lou Jiahui scored in the 70th minute to make it 6-0.

Wang and Ma scored their second goals in the 80th and 89th minute, to finish the scoreboard 8-0.

"We complete all our targets, the players who played the first match had a good rest today, and the players who didn't play the first match warmed up," Bini Said.

"The most important is that our team's DNA is back in our blood again," he added.

"The level of the China team we played are very high, we are a little bit smaller than the Chinese players and the weather is cold," Vietnam's coach Mai Duc Chung said.

China will play South Korea two days later, Bini's team will claim the title if they don't lose the match. Endit
