BiH to apply for EU membership in Feb.: report

Xinhua, January 23, 2016 Adjust font size:

Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) will make a formal application for the membership of the European Union next month, local media reported on Saturday.

BiH Presidency Chairman Dragan Covic will submit the application on Feb. 15 in Brussels, reported Fena, the Federal New Agency.

BiH is widely expected to apply for EU membership after agreements among political parties last year. The Balkan state has so far lagged behind other countries in the region in joining the EU.

The country's EU integration process had been long-stalled before it was back on track after a British-German initiative in 2014.

According to Fena report, BiH will try to obtain candidate status in early 2017. Enditem
