Cantillo sets South American powerlifting record

Colombian Paralympic weightlifter Jainer Cantillo set a new South American record in the -80kg category of the sport's Rio 2016 test event on Friday. The 40-year-old lifted 195km on the second day in the Rio stage of the 2016 powerlifting World Cup at Olympic Park's Carioca Arena 1.

Cantillo dedicated the result to his eight-year-old daughter Liliana.

"I said I was going to win it for her," he told Rio2016.com.

Brazilian Evanio Rodrigues took silver in the -80kg class but raising 197km with his first lift.

Cuba's Jesus Drake Veja took gold in the -88kg category, clinching a personal best lift of 197kg.

I'm really happy, because I'm now very close to a place at the Paralympic Games here in Rio," he said. Endit
