Cologne and coach Peter Stoeger agree on contract extension

Xinhua, January 22, 2016 Adjust font size:

Cologne's coach Peter Stoeger has extended his contract ahead of schedule, the "Billy Goates" announced on Thursday.

The 49-year-old coach extended his current contract, which will expire in June 2017, to June 2020. The contract of Stoeger's co-assistant Manfred Schmid has been updated as well.

"With Peter Stoeger we have the best coach for Cologne. That is our firm belief. We work well and successfully therefore we want to continue our cooperation with Peter Stoeger and his coaching staff," Cologne's general manager Joerg Schmadtke told the club's official homepage.

The Austrian coach took the helm in the summer 2013 when Cologne played still in the second division. Under Stoeger Cologne was able to reap their promotion before the "Billy Goats" established their top-flight status in the last season.

"I did not had to think for too long as I feel extremely comfortable here. I appreciate the cooperation with the management and the board as well as the team and the entire staff," Peter Stoeger said.

Cologne completed the first half of the season on the 9th place. They encounter relegation threatened Stuttgart at the 18th round of Bundesliga on January 23. Endit
