Pilot shortage leads to cancellation of SAS flights

Xinhua, January 21, 2016 Adjust font size:

Scandinavian airline SAS will have to cancel a total of 766 flights from the beginning of February until mid-May as an acute shortage of pilots continues to cause problems for its subsidiary Cimber airline, local media reported Thursday.

From February 4 to May 14, SAS will cancel 766 departures supposed to be operated on the Cimber CRJ900 aircraft, the Danish travel industry and aviation website reported.

"It is a challenging process to recruit and to train pilots for Cimber, and it has proven to be more time-consuming than expected," SAS press officer Trine Kromann Mikkelsen said.

The cancellations, mainly affecting northern European routes, are expected to impact some 10,000 passengers who have already booked their tickets.

SAS canceled around 300 fights since early November due to a pilot shortage in Cimber. Endit
