Colombian VP recovering from brain surgery

Xinhua, January 21, 2016 Adjust font size:

Colombia's Vice President German Vargas is recovering from a successful surgery to remove a benign brain tumor, conducted on Wednesday in Bogota.

"Vice President German Vargas started to recover after a successful surgery, we are glad to hear this news from doctors," President Juan Manuel Santos said on Twitter.

The Colombian official entered the Santa Fe de Bogota Hospital for the resection of a meningioma, a benign brain tumor, which was scheduled last December, according to a statement by the hospital.

"It is expected that the vice president will remain in hospital for a couple of days before doctors decide accordingly," said the statement, adding that the doctors have advised him to rest for four weeks.

Vargas fainted on Dec. 2 while giving a public speech in the central province of Santander, with doctors stating that an old brain lesion had worsened due to excessive workload. Endi
