Xinhua, January 21, 2016 Adjust font size:

Macedonian Ministry of Culture said on Wednesday that over 340,000 documents of valuable cultural heritage have been digitized at the Regional center for digitization of cultural heritage.

It was announced during the visit of the Macedonian Minister of Culture Elizabeta Kanceska Milevska at the center, a department within the Cultural Heritage Protection Office.

"Digitization is an important process for Macedonia that takes into account all contemporary technological processes. Over 340,000 documents of Macedonia's valuable cultural heritage have been digitized since the opening of center in 2008, supported by UNESCO," Milevska said.

The digitized documents come from the Cultural Heritage Protection Office, the National Conservation Center -- Skopje and the Institute of Macedonian Language "Krste Misirkov."

According to the Macedonian Culture Ministry, the number of digitized documents is about 70,000 per year.

Cultural Heritage Protection Office director Viktor Lilcic said the institution has launched another very significant project. "The archaeological cadastre of Macedonia should be operational by the year-end. Based on GIS technology, we will include all archaeological sites in Macedonia, as well as the entire cultural heritage, monasteries, churches, mosques and other," stated Lilcic. Endit
