Zambia beat Zimbabwe 1-0, Uganda draws Mali

Xinhua, January 20, 2016 Adjust font size:

Zambia beat Zimbabwe 1-0 in the Africa National Championships Tuesday at Umuganda Stadium in Rubavu, western Rwanda.

Chipolopolo's Isaac Chansa scored for Zambia on 58th minute to give Zambia the lead.

In same Group D Uganda drew 2-2 against Mali.

Chansa and Chris Katongo both started the game for Chipolopolo and played a wonderful ball.

Zimbabwe had several chances but failed to take advantage due to solid Zambian defense.

Meanwhile, in same group Uganda Cranes started on the wrong foot.

Uganda started the game well, leading with 2-1 into 59th minute until Mali equalized in 60th minute through Hamidou Sinayoko.

Ugandan defender Joseph Ochaya scored the first goal, slotting the ball in the empty net in the 11th minute from free-kick by Farouk Miya.

Mali put up the pressure, looking for an equalizer, and they got that exactly when Sedou Keita got it through left-footed shot.

Uganda led the game after being awarded a penalty to Erisa Sekisambu who was fouled inside the box. Farouk Miya wasted no minute to score in 41st minute.

Uganda had two injured substitutions of keeper Ismail Watenga, replaced by Mathias Kigonya and skipper Miya was replaced by Muzamiru Mutyaba.

Uganda will play again on Friday against Zimbabwe while Zambia will meet Mali. Endit
