Bangladesh customs seizes 110 gold bars weighing 12 kg

Customs officials at Bangladesh's main airport in the capital on Tuesday seized 110 gold bars weighing 12 kg, an official said.

The official of the Customs Intelligence Department who did not like to be named told Xinhua that "We've recovered 110 gold bars weighing about 12 kilograms from a flight of local Regent Airways, which flew in from Bangkok through Chittagong (some 242 km skutheast of Dhaka).

Two persons have been arrested in connection with the seizure.

The local Regent Airways flight landed at the Bangladesh's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Tuesday evening.

Tipped off that gold bars were concealed in the flight, he said the customs officials conducted a raid and found the gold bars.

Organized gangs of local smugglers having link with their foreign sidekicks are increasingly using Bangladesh as a route for the illegal transportation of gold, foreign currencies, contraband drug and medicines. Endit
