Latvian President Raimonds Vejonis was taken to hospital Monday morning, according to the President's Office.

Representatives of Riga Eastern Clinical University Hospital confirmed to local media early on Monday that the president was staying in the hospital, but did not provide any details about his condition.

The president's office later said that Vejonis was being treated for a virus infection at the hospital.

Vejonis will continue to perform his presidential duties during hospitalization, but all his scheduled appointments and public appearances for this week have been canceled, said the office. Endi
