Slovenia welcomes implementation of umbrella accord on Iran's nuclear program

Xinhua, January 18, 2016 Adjust font size:

Slovenian Foreign Ministry welcomed on Sunday the implementation of the umbrella accord on Iran's nuclear program, saying it demonstrated that "diplomacy can resolve even the most difficult international issues if there is political will."

The full implementation of the deal aimed at preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons in return for the lifting of international sanctions comes after a final check of Iranian compliance with the terms by the International Atomic Energy Agency.

The lifting of sanctions enables Iran to reintegrate into the international community in a range of areas and provides fresh impetus for progress of the whole region, the Slovenian Foreign Ministry said as the terms of the deal kicked in.

The ministry said in its statement, according to the Slovenian Press Agency (STA), that it expected Iran to take the historic opportunity afforded to it by constructively engaging in efforts to find diplomatic solutions for other conflicts in its region.

In this light, Slovenia welcomes the inclusion of Iran in efforts to find a solution for the crisis in Syria.

The ministry added that it expects Iran to fully abide by the accord. Endit
