A Palestinian man allegedly attempted to stab Israeli soldiers in the West Bank on Sunday before being shot dead by Israeli forces, the Israeli army said.

The assailant approached soldiers at an Israeli military post near the Huwara checkpoint, close to Nablus, and tried to stab them. No Israelis were reportedly injured. (Israel-Palestine-Violence)

DAMASCUS -- Air strikes against the de facto capital of the Islamic State (IS) group in northern Syria killed 40 civilians on Sunday, a monitor group reported.

At least eight children were among those killed by the air strikes against the northern city of al-Raqqa over the past 24 hours, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. (Syria-IS-Airstrike)

JERUSALEM -- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his country would continue to monitor Iran, a day after the announcement of the implementation of the nuclear deal between world powers and the Islamic Republic.

"Israel would continue to monitor Iran's international violations of the nuclear agreement and the ballistic missiles agreement, as well as its involvement with terrorism," Netanyahu said on Sunday, at the start of a weekly cabinet meeting. (Israel-Iran-Sanctions)

ASADABAD, Afghanistan -- Eight militants had been killed in a premature blast in Afghanistan's eastern province of Kunar, police said on Sunday.

"A total of eight Taliban militants were busy in building an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in a compound in Sawokhor locality of Nari district on Saturday. The IED device accidently exploded, killing the eight on the spot," a provincial police source told Xinhua. (Afghanistan-Blast)

DAMASCUS -- The Islamic State (IS) militant group kidnapped a total of 400 people from a town its militants had stormed in Syria's eastern province of Deir al-Zour, pan-Arab al-Mayadeen TV reported on Sunday.
