Muslim congregation's 2nd phase ends in Bangladesh with prayer for world peace

Xinhua, January 17, 2016 Adjust font size:

The second largest annual Muslim congregation concluded its second phase Sunday in Bangladesh, with millions of devotees praying for world peace, prosperity and fraternal harmony.

Devotees including some 10,000 foreigners from scores of countries sought divine blessings, stability and welfare of all mankind at the second phase.

The first phase of the congregation called Biswa Ijtema held on the banks of the Turag river at Tongi, some 25 km north of capital Dhaka, ended on Jan. 10.

The second phase of the congregation, which has been held in two phases since 2011 to avoid mad rush of pilgrims, began Friday at the same venue as the first one.

Nearly 12,000 members from law-enforcing agencies have been deployed in the five-layered security net in and around the 60-hectare Ijtema ground, the main venue of the congregation to ensure safety and security. Endit
