The MVP trophy of the Chinese Basketball Association All-Star Rookie Chanllenge was won by Xu Tao, a young center from Sichuan, who led the North with 20 points and four blocks to beat the South 103-89 here on Saturday night.

"It's a victory of teamwork over an individual," said Xu. "We played strong defence with everyone's hardwork."

Six players from the North scored double digits tonight, however Fu Hao made the game-high 30 points and contributed 13 rebounds for the South.

The two teams had a tight game in the first half. The North outscored the South 24-14 in the third quarter to set the tone.

Former Lakers point guard Sun Yue led the first round of the three-point shooting contest with 18 points shared by Meng Duo. The other finalist is Zhao Tailong from Fujian.

Fang Shuo and Zhou Zhandong advanced to the technics challenge final.

Wang Tong, Tang Hai and Sun Minghui will fight for the dunk title tomorrow night. Endit
