2nd Palestinian killed after stabbing Israeli commander

Xinhua, January 14, 2016 Adjust font size:

A Palestinian stabbed an Israeli commander Thursday in the West Bank before he was shot dead by Israeli forces, officials said.

An Israeli medical emergency services' spokesperson said that the commander was mildly injured as he was stabbed in his hand.

The military released a statement which said the incident occurred as Palestinians hurled objects at Israeli forces on the slopes of Mount Ebal.

"As soldiers stepped out of their vehicle, a terrorist stabbed an officer in his hand," said the statement.

The statement confirmed that the Palestinian man was then shot dead on site.

The incident occurred a few hours after Israeli soldiers shot dead another Palestinian after he allegedly tried to stab an Israeli soldier outside Beit Anun in the north of Hebron.

On Wednesday, Israeli soldiers shot dead two Palestinian males, one 23 and the other 17, at the exact same site, claiming that one of them planned to carry out a stabbing attack whilst the other drove him.

The incident is the latest in the four-month-long deadly violent stream in the West Bank, Israel, and the Gaza Strip.

At least 150 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces or armed civilians since a violent uprising transpired in mid-September.

During the same timeframe, Palestinians killed 23 Israelis and a U.S. citizen in knife, car-ramming, and shooting attacks.

Israel accused the Palestinian National Authority of "triggering" the violence, whereas Palestinians say it is simply the natural outcome of 49 years of Israeli rule over their territory. Endit
