Sri Lanka, Japan hold talks on investment, trade

Xinhua, January 14, 2016 Adjust font size:

Sri Lanka and Japan have held discussions on the promotion of investment and trade between the two countries as well as Japan's collaboration in Sri Lanka's national development plan, a Foreign Ministry statement said here on Thursday.

During the first round of the Sri Lanka, Japan Policy Dialogue held between the foreign ministries of the two countries in Colombo, Sri Lanka had also discussed the national reconciliation and peace-building process in the island nation.

The policy dialogue was proposed in a joint declaration on a "comprehensive partnership" between Sri Lanka and Japan, issued during the visit of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to Japan in October.

The dialogue focused on promotion of investment and trade, collaboration in the national development plan and cooperation in the national reconciliation and peace-building process in Sri Lanka.

Both sides also had discussions on regional issues as well as global challenges affecting the two countries.

The policy dialogue concluded in Colombo on Wednesday and the next round of the policy dialogue at the senior official level of the two foreign ministries will be held in Tokyo, in early 2017. Endit
