Southwest China's Sichuan Province reported one human H5N1 case on Wednesday.

A 42-year-old man with pneumonia tested positive for the H5N1 strain of bird flu in a sample from his lower respiratory tract on Tuesday.

The man developed symptoms including fever starting Dec. 27. His condition worsened on Jan. 2 to severe pneumonia and respiratory failure. He is now in critical condition.

The man had contact with live poultry before he became ill. The local disease prevention and control department has sterilized his home and the nearby environment, and 58 people who had contact with him haven't reported any illness. Endit
