Malaysia warns fat cops: lose fat or no promotion

Malaysian police have launched a program to alleviate the overweight problems among its forces, local media reported Wednesday.

National Police Chief Khalid Abu Bakar told a press conference that the overweight cops will need to participate in a program to loose weight or risking being left out for promotion.

The local Star newspaper reported earlier that some 11,000 police were considered overweight, according to a "conservative" estimation.

Khalid said the obesity had contributed to the health problem among police force.

Some studies have put Malaysia as one of the countries with highest obesity rate in Asia. The government has expressed concerns over the trend and the potential health risk on its population. Endit
