Chinese farmers caught for making and selling drugs

Xinhua, January 13, 2016 Adjust font size:

Twelve farmers were arrested in central China's Henan Province for making drugs in their own workshop and selling them online, local police said Wednesday.

They allegedly earned several hundred thousand yuan by producing 41 kilograms of methcathinone, an addictive drug with euphoric effects that can cause hypertension and rapid heart rate.

Police in Kaifeng City seized 605.6 grams of methcathinone in the workshop during the raids, as well as raw materials and equipment for drug production.

Last October, police discovered people selling drugs online in Kaifeng. They suspected that some farmers were producing drugs on their own.

By tracing the seller, He, they discovered the workshop at the home of 28-year-old Pang in Zhaozhuang Village, Lankao County. The seller surnamed He and another man, Liu, were the workshop's technicians.

Police also arrested Pang's pregnant girlfriend, Song, and a suspect named Wang who allegedly supplied raw materials for their production, as well as several suspected drug dealers.

The case is under further investigation. Endi
