Senior leader urges women's organization to improve service

Xinhua, January 13, 2016 Adjust font size:

Vice President Li Yuanchao on Wednesday urged China's women's federations to improve service through innovation and reform, and to better serve women and girls.

Li made the remarks while meeting with leaders of the All-China Women's Federation and urged officials of the federations to study the spirit of President Xi Jinping's speech on state governance.

Li said women can "hold up half the sky" and should be encouraged in the great cause of building a "moderately prosperous society" during the 13th Five-Year Plan starting this year.

All levels of women's federations should serve women well and safeguard women's and children's rights and interests, the senior official said.

Late Chinese leader Mao Zedong famously encouraged women to "hold up half the sky" in socialist construction. Endi
