5 militants killed in cleanup operations in northern Afghan city

Security forces have killed five Taliban militants and captured another following cleanup operations near Shiberghan city in the northern Jauzjan province on Wednesday, police said.

"The cleanup operations begun early morning and so far five rebels have been killed and another one made captive," deputy to provincial police chief Abdul Hafiz Khashi told Xinhua.

The operations would last until the militants are eliminated in the area to ensure lasting peace there, he added.

Taliban militants who intensified activities with the herald of new year, are yet to make comment. Enditem
