Tokyo shares end sharply higher on U.S. gains

Tokyo shares snapped its six-day losses and surged by ending the trading Wednesday with its benchmark Nikkei stocks index skyrocketed about 3 percent on gains in the overnight U.S. stocks market and the yen's retreat.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average surged 496.67 points, or 2.88 percent, from Tuesday at 17,715.63.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange jumped 40.14 points, or 2.86 percent, higher at 1,442.09.

All issues on the main section gained ground, leading by rubber products, air transport and securities.

The day's turnover was about 2,496.1 billion yen (about 21.10 billion U.S. dollars). Endit
