Indian External Affairs Minister to visit Israel, Palestine next week

Xinhua, January 13, 2016 Adjust font size:

Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will embark on a two-day tour of Israel and Palestine next week, sources said Wednesday.

Swaraj will arrive in Palestine on January 17, where she plans to hold talks with the country's top leadership and on the same day, she would leave for Israel for a two-day trip, the sources said.

"The visit will also reaffirm India's continued political, diplomatic and developmental support to Palestine," Indian External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup has said.

On her next stop in Tel Aviv, Swaraj is scheduled to meet Israeli President Reuven Rivli, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other officials, the sources said.

"India's relations with Israel are part of its engagement with the broader West Asia region and are independent of its relations with any country in the region," Swarup said.

Indian President Pranab Mukherjee traveled to Israel in October last year and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to go to Israel later this year. Endit
