Uganda names final squad for 2016 Africa Nations Championship

Head coach of the Uganda Cranes, Milutin Sredojevic on Tuesday named his final squad that will take part in the 2016 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) in Rwanda.

The tournament which brings together local based players featuring in the League in their respective countries in Africa will run Jan. 16-Feb. 7.

Farouk Miya will skipper the team, while defender Joseph Ochaya and experienced striker Robert Sentongo will be the assistants.

"I trust that the team I have named will hold the Ugandan flag high and play well in the tournament," said the Serbian born coach.

Uganda Cranes who will be based in Rubavu are grouped in Pool D alongside Zambia, Zimbabwe and Mali.

The team is expected to depart on Saturday ahead of their opening match against Mali on Jan. 19.

The tournament will open with the hosts Rwanda facing Ivory Coast, while Gabon take on Morocco in the second game on Jan. 16.

Defending champions Libya who won the Cup in 2014 in South Africa failed to qualify for this 4th Edition of the CHAN event. Endit
