French gov't expresses solidarity with Turkey after terror attack in Istanbul

French Premier Manuel Valls expressed on Tuesday solidarity with Turkey after terror attacks in Istanbul which has killed at least ten people, urging swift moves to implement "all necessary means" to fight the terror threat.

Speaking to iTele news channel, Valls said "at this stage" no French nationals had appeared on the list of at least 10 victims of a suicide attack in the Turkish city of Istanbul.

He cautioned French nationals travelling there to be "extremely vigilant".

On its website, the foreign ministry recommended French people be extremely vigilant and avoid visiting Istanbul's historic district of Sultanahmet Square, where the suicide attack took place.

Of those killed, most were Germans; 15 others were wounded in the explosion.

A 28-year-old Syrian was believed to be behind the attack, according to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Endit
