Former vice mayor of Guangzhou prosecuted for taking bribes

Xinhua, January 12, 2016 Adjust font size:

Cao Jianliao, former vice mayor of Guangzhou, capital city of south China's Guangdong province, was prosecuted for graft, local authorities confirmed on Tuesday.

According to the Shenzhen people's procuratorate, public prosecution was brought to the Shenzhen intermediate people's court, with Cao suspected of taking advantage of his position and accepting more than 70 million yuan in bribes.

Cao, born in 1955, had worked as Party chief of the Tianhe district, Haizhu district and Zengcheng city of Guangzhou. He became vice mayor of Guangzhou in 2007.

China showed zero tolerance for corruption. Last year 37 provincial and ministerial level officials were put under investigation. Endi
